Yes, I Was a Lottery Yarn Employee – No I Can’t Get You a Discount

All for a couple of these and some other stuff...ok lots of other stuff

A long time ago when I was blogging regularly, I worked at a place that rhymes with ‘Lottery Yarn’.

Got it?  Some people haven’t so I am guessing you are pretty smart.

I didn’t write about it often because it was at that time that companies were doing a good deal of reprimanding and out and out firing and or killing of people for writing about the company on their blog or FB or bathroom walls, whatever.  I would mention it from time to time.  I knew there would come a day where I could vent my frustrations.  After all I wasn’t going to do it forever.  I was in it for the discount.

I was there for 6 years.  Actually, I used to measure it in Holiday Seasons rather than years.  Those were painful times.  I think someone actually used to keep hash marks, like counting days in prison on a stock room shelf.  Every Holiday Season I swore was my last.  I finally quit about a year ago but I was not blogging at the time…

I am not going to give you ALL the gory details…ok not all at once but until a certain parent company wants to send me a cease and desist order I’ll tell you about my experience a little at a time.

Understand that I really liked most of the people I worked with in the store and most of the people I helped while working there.  I just hope to offer you a little insight into why we may seem a little off at times.

Since this post is already long enough, I’ll start slow and small.  In the next post I’ll talk about how we stalked people.  Ok, your email address, we ask for it every time we see you even though we know you get the catalog and the emails and the subliminal messages in the music…wait…um…yeah.  Anyway, we were beaten about the chest with a sack of bar soap if we didn’t ask you.  It’s true.  It doesn’t leave bruises and when they used the lavender scent it covered the smell of our tears.  Actually, we were measured on how may we were able to capture and corporate was none too happy when you were below a certain percentage.  It made the management look bad, hence the beatings.  So if you are feeling generous one day when you are in the Lottery Yarn, give the girl at the register a good email address.  It will make her day and cause her one less beating.  You can always unsubscribe later.

Next time when we revisit the store we’ll discuss the stalking.

One of my first jobs was at J.C Penny and we were scored on how many credit apps we were able to collect. I couldn’t take the pressure… Or the pantyhose and dresses that we HAD to wear then.

Don’t get me started on the dress code there…
