Writers Workshop Wednesday: I wish I could…

I wish I could run. I see people every morning running/jogging. They have a serious look about them as if they know they are doing something good for themselves. There is concentration there and focus.

They are not walking the dog and picking up poop.

The run is all about them. They don’t worry that they might not look good in the gym or that they may fart during Child Pose. They are out there on their own, sweaty, possibly gassy, with the wind in their face and th3e knowledge that they are winning the battle against poor health.

I wanna feel like that.

I have tried running and it isn’t for me, I get winded after 5 minutes. I also envy those that are that dedicated. My neighbors are tri-athletes and they work out every day, think of the guilt I feel!

I see lots of runners while walking the dog too. They make me feel guilty that I not making more of an effort to be healthier.

I agree. Wish that I could be a runner as well. It looks to cool and peaceful. But I would be so uncordinated and probably fall.

I love my morning run because I am on my own, at my own pace and if I go slowly I am only cheating me, so I don’t. Time to think about the day ahead, time to nod and say hello to the other habitual people one sees at their own dog walking morning, or the early trip for the paper! It’s good to get home and feel a bit sweaty but also good in the legs and lungs.I am tall and gangly and generally uncoordinated but if I run it all comes together and looks and works well! I take fairly long strides (I am six-five) so it is good to be on my own and not dictated by a running partner’s pace – unless he or she happens to be equally tall of course. How come you choose not to run?

Oooh, I want to do that too!! A friend of mine took the “Learn to Run” course offered by the Running Room and she said all she learned was that she hates to run! lol

Good one! I don’t mind running so much as I mind finding the time to do it and changing my clothes and actually leaving the house and getting all sweaty. Not fun.Time consuming. But I suppose the trouble is worth the benefits…

I run, and where I live there are tons and tons of runners, I never get tired of watching the determination of an athlete

I like the anonymity of passing gas myself!I am currently too fat to run, it would hurt me. But I have run in the past and thoroughly enjoy it.

I concur, but I’m just not the “exercise type” and even if I were, I cannot imagine where I could find another minute in the day to do something outside of our already set routine.

Running in Nike commercials is different than running in real life. Running in real life only reminds you how out of shape you are. At least for me, HAHA! It’s THE HARDEST THING to get my ass out of bed and go running. So don’t worry…you aren’t missing much, haha.

AJ likes to run. I go with him, frequently. I’m the person that looks like I enjoy it, but on the inside I’m screaming “WTF am I doing?????”

I am so not an exerciser. And running would never make it onto my schedule. But I do love my water aerobics classes. It’s kinda fun to be the young one. With my class full of people old enough to be my grandparents. And they are in much better shape than I am. But, it’s fun. And that is what keeps me going back.

I’d prefer walking my dog any day to watching running. I’m not a runner. At all. When I ever work out (which is rare) I’ll do elliptical trainer or walk, but running is just too high impact for this lazy bum.

So do it. I started running back in May and sticking to it. I ran my first race back in July and gearing up for my first 5k next month. I am reading “idiots guide to running”. Very helpful stuff. I am very proud to call myself a runner now!! Just give it a try but don’t over do it.

If you really want to try running, look into a couch to 5k program. They are all free and can be found online. Good stuff.
