Somebody That I Used to Know
I’ve had that song in my head for days.
I have been preparing for a trip to my old college town while updating my blog at the same time.
Ok…someone else updated my blog to WordPress and started me with my own domain but I digress.
Anyway, I was pretty nostalgic as I was making a list of things to pack (ok, lists) and at the same time I was thinking about who I was when I was there 20 years ago and what was better now and a lot of ‘if I knew then what I know now’ and ‘if I had to do it all over again’. Yes it is corny and it irritated me that I was being corny but I could not help it for some reason.
What would I have changed?
Would I still be me?
They are always loaded questions because there are parts of my life I would not want to change at all but if I had made the slightest change in course, I might end up without one of the things I hold most dear. The thing is, if I didn’t know I was missing it, would it matter?
I haven’t even had any wine writing this post and I am already getting a little too deep for my own good. Instead, I will just say that yes, there are many things I would do differently with the benefit of maturity (ahem) and hindsight. However, it is silly of me to worry about what might have been when I have a life now that I can take in any direction I want. Am I approaching 40? Yes. Should that make it harder? No, but it does create some mental roadblocks which might not have been there back in the day but that is the downside of maturity and hindsight. I just have to figure out how to use them to my advantage.
